I think it should be of any kind of neat old dive gear, and the more obscure and different the better: hopefully we can get some of regs like the Northill, Rose Pro, Viking, Divair or Scott Hydro-Pak... We should also try to have them aesthetically pleasing too, good compositions, I feel that is of the utmost importance. Jaybird

My thoughts are aligned with Jay, in that it should be any kind of dive gear. There's so much more to diving than regulators. Aesthetically pleasing is extremely important. Other than that, my suggestion would be to keep things simple. A contest complicates things. I don't think more than a few people have offered images, and probably some were just trying to help and don't really care if their image is included. Also VSCF (this forum) is a separate entity from VSS, so probably no chance of prizes in that direction. I think because Jay has stepped up as a graphic artist and volunteered to prep photos and/or add text, that he would earn the right to choose what photos go in. It's so much simpler than voting, prizes, etc. It would boil down to whoever can take aesthetically pleasing photos of their gear (his call). Send hi-res images to Jay. This could all happen rather quickly if it's kept simple. And Jay, your Christmas image should definitely be December! So only 11 more images needed. Just my two cents.

Again, PLEASE PM me if you need help with your images!!!!!!!!!!! We need to do this through e-mails as this site can't handle the image sizes for high quality pictures: I fixed an image of Searat-John's and it was 5.43 Meg's!
Also, we need to have a confab as to where the calendar would/will be printed.

Linda, how'za'bout you and I picking? It's your site, and I don't want to get someone bent out of shape because I didn't choose their image: this is the friendliest scuba site on the web (period) let's keep it that way, 'kay? I know you try really hard to make this site what it is, not like...

Well.... as an example of the images that have been submitted so far that *I* think are artistically appealing... The Sea Lion reg looks very nice, as does Karl's Waterlung/collection. I love DavidRitchieWilson 's suit, but there is a seam in the carpet on the left that is distracting. Backdrops are SO important in good photography. (In my humble opinion). I don't really like pics taken on a lawn unless they are done with great care... the grasses and such inevitably leave their shadows on the equipment. Again, just my opinion. A good background is just as important as a good subject! It only takes a few minutes to set up a good backdrop and take (or re-take) a good picture. Another thing, just to keep things simple in case y'all want to try to pull this together so that the calendars are available soonish (like in the next week or so)... If you (Jay?) choose Cafepress to print the calendars, I know from experience you could just set the price to the "base price", meaning... there would be no profit, so no sorting out who/what should get it. Those that buy the calendar would be getting it at the cheapest possible price. (Cafepress base prices aren't all that cheap, because they are willing to do one-offs, so it's sorta worth it if you think of it that way). If this whole thing gets put together, then we have all this next year to talk about contests, prizes, benefits, profits, etc. But for now, how about we just try to get 12 good images and let the calendar be sold at base price?

Linda, I was just chatting with my wife while we ate lunch and she mentioned the beauty of Cafe Press is that you can upload the images and they store them for you as well as doing all the shipping etc. She also thought of something REALLY COOL: if and when this calendar takes off, the monies generated can be put into a fund that people can apply for or given to, to support a group that should be very near and dear to all of our hearts... or whomever is a worthy cause!
