Luis,
Well, it looks like I'll never be a member of that association, since I won't associate with Bryan or his site (he doesn't want me there either). Bryan is monitoring my movements on his site, so simply tell him I visited for about 20 seconds to see where your link went to. I won't be back anytime soon. I'll simply continue to enjoy diving vintage gear, and not worry about what some national association thinks is "vintage."
Charlie, I didn't know about it either.

Luis, Well, it looks like I'll never be a member of that association, ... John SeaRat, Nemrod is the President of NAVED and I'm the Vice President. Anyone who wants to join and meets the simple criteria outlined on the site is granted membership in NAVED. NAVED is open to any and all that qualify. We use VDH as a web host but are not affiliated with VDH. On behalf of NAVED I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone who is interested in sharing our love for vintage equipment. Please follow this link for more information: NAVED Membership Rules

Ditto what Joe said, membership in NAVED has nothing to do with vdh other than we are a poor startup internet club and therefore need a free host. We are slowly working towards a stand alone website. The criteria are simple and membership is open to all who qualify and qualifing is a no brainer. So far there are no actual "black balled" persons aside from that scubiedoo person from a few years ago who--well---never mind--y'all know that history. The President is me The VP is Joe The S/T is Rob These initial postings were by appointment from me. The membership is slowly growing and having a few typical issues the main one being cash. It is my fervent desire to hold an open election at some point to replace the appointed leadership with elected leadership. We, as a collective group, discussed various vintage criteria, it is not ironclad and never changing, the membership can ask for discussion or whatever. However, on occasion it has been discovered that outside entities have requested our appearence and specified particular gear etc--that is beyond control of membership. This is funny, I was splish splashing away in a very non effective manner at Devil's Eye duiring SDV with Joe as my buddy. I stood up on the rocks and examined my stupid rotten junk dime store "vintage" fins and we both, without other thought --a mind meld--on the spot--declared ALL Jet Fins vintage complaint for NAVED Nemrod

One other thing, as of now, none of the events, dives, gatherings that have ocurred or for which plans are being made within the larger vintage community have been HOSTED by NAVED. NAVED members have attended them or will attend them but NONE of these events have been controlled or belong to NAVED. When NAVED members show up for such events we certainly represent the NAVED group which is why we ask for a modicum of proof that one is actually a vintage diver and not a card collector but NAVED so far does not own or command any of the events that ocurr past or present and as of this time the future. Will NAVED ever host an event? Well, that is up to membership.

Personally, I think NAVED is a worthy organization in and of itself. That is why I jumped at the chance to be one of it's first members.
Until NAVED has it's own web site, NAVED's forum is tied in with the VDH forum. Anyone wanting to participate in NAVED's discussions MUST be a member of the VDH forum at this time, and I know of some potential NAVED members who don't want to do that for their own personal reasons. I have been reactivated on the VDH forum for the sole purpose of participating in NAVED. I don't have permission to post on VDH itself, which is fine by me.

So, can I join NAVED?
My Nikonos 4a isn't vintage equipment; but, I have to use it 'cause my Nikonos ll flooded and became a dive store display. (sorry if this offends anyone who uses non-vintage digital, made in china, by slave labor, stuff)
My DA, even though it may appear to be vintage, is actually in almost brand new condition. So is my Scubapro Horsecollar BC.
My Steel 72 is sort of vintage and my Scubapro SPG attached to it's valve says "Made in Italy" so I guess it's vintage 'cause it's not made in china.
Well, my USD backpack doesn't have quick release steel tank strap, cumberbun, or nylon (yuk!) tank strap; so, I guess it's vintage.
Ok, I ain't got money to go divin' or get my tank filled right now (which would take priority over joinin' anything); how much do I have to pay?
I still have my double injection molded snorkel and White Stag mask (though neither are in diveable condition). I think they are vintage.
So, can I join?

Actually, we are not going to discuss any of this in this mannner beyond what has been said. It works best that way. NAVED came about as the result of a talk around the fire at Wazee several years ago, the Phoenix did as well as several other things of recent note in a similar manner. Nem

It's still not vintage. I think James is saying that you need a vintage car to join the National Association of Vintage Equipment Drivers

Have they decided to do any vintage dives in No. CA (a requirement for membership is to do a vintage dive with them; sorry, I don't have the money to go to the east coast). I've done lots of vintage dives way before NAVED ever existed in the Cheasapeake Bay (wasn't "vintage" then), and that's farther east than most of their dives.
Anyone got a '57 Chevy they could loan me? I like red or orange ones with flames on both sides !!! (might not be able to return it if loaned to me)

Have they decided to do any vintage dives in No. CA (a requirement for membership is to do a vintage dive with them..............) Robert, this isn't true. Read JES's post on NAVED and click on the link to get the facts. Here, for your convenience, are the requirements: "There are very few rules in this social organization but before we can welcome you aboard as a member we ask that you meet a minimum of TWO of the criteria outlined below. 1. Provide at least one photo of yourself using scuba equipment that was made prior to 1975. This one is mandatory. You'll need to meet one of the next three as well. 2. Be an active member of the Vintage Equipment discussion forums at Vintage Double Hose.com or Vintage Scuba Supply.com. 3. Dive with us at one of our many Events throughout the year. Sand Dog in Florida, Lake Wazee in Wisconsin, Portage Quarry, in Ohio or any of the diving events sponsored by the Historical Diving Society. 4. Have a recommendation from a current NAVED member." 1. I know you have pictures. The one in your avatar would probably get you in. 2. I believe you are a member in BOTH of these forums. 3. Well, O.K. 4. I'll sponsor you if you are intersted, but you don't really need me to since you already have fulfilled the first TWO requirements. You only need to fulfill TWO, as stated above. I'll even provide the $15 for you to join. So, what's keepin' ya!

I'll have to send them a picture of me from Panama (not too many really old vintage photos of me; I always took the photos with my Nik ll and flashbulbs (vintage!(not digital)) - my dive buddies didn't know how to use a camera!
Still, no one has offered to loan me a '57 Chevy ... come on everyone, I'm waiting. It would be more fun to drive than setting in front of this computer !!!

It isn't the photo that needs to be vintage, just the equipment. Like I said, I'd bet your avatar photo would do fine. I KNOW your trusty, dusty DAAM is pre-1975! Anyhow, sometime this Spring or Summer I can take a picture of you if you want. Sheesh, it's a BEAUTIFUL day today. It's time to get back in the snow runoff!
