I think we need to seperate vintage diving from double hose diving. Vintage is as it was done 40 years ago before BC's, octos. ponys, etc came into general use. Double hose diving is just that using a double hose regulator and whatever other gear you chose. I do both but in neither do I carry a pony, spare air or other redundancy. I also have never had an octo attached to any of my regulators.] captain, I agree with you on the definition you presented above. I have dove both vintage and modern with the double hose.....in fact my RAM is all I have used in the past three years since I found this group and had my reg rebuilt. Before I used a tekna.....both the Tekna and my RAM however, sport a Octo....but for only one reason.........for somebody else who needs air.......I have never used a octo in my life. The units I have are there due to the requirements sometimes put on divers on charters. I dove Cozumel a couple of years ago also with my RAM, but with the octo....still I received no negative feed back.....I also dove several times from the pier of the hotel alone.......again, no negative feed back. Monitoring my air supply and good equipment maintainence negates emergencys or equipment failures for me. Staying in shape at my age is another issue when sitting at a desk all day........does that count as a equipment failure?

Captain,
Didn't Mike Nelson always cut the exhaust hose? I'll have to check out some Sea Hunt movies again to see.

Robert Yes, but DAN ain't talking about double hose regs, it's them wiz bang super duper rockets red glare plastic fantastic regulators. Mike don't like them and neither do I. Keep your knife sharp.
