Nemrod
I too have been thinking how nice it would be for a new REAL double hose regulator to be on the market.
One with a good proven 1st stage, ak: conshelf 14 type and perhaps the tilt valve second stage ak: Tekna.
As for the new double hose Aqualung is advertising in Europe. I couldn't get past the idea I had seen this thing before.............then it hit me.
The mouth piece assembly looks like it is held together to the hoses with large nuts..........the kind I just tightened on the PVC drain under my wifes kitchen sink.
The exhaust L shaped fitting that comes off the hose and on to the exhaust housing looks a lot like the same L shaped fitting on my BC or for that matter the metal fitting that connects my radiator hose to the thermostat housing on my truck...........just larger than the USD.
I guess this thing works well, but for simple designed beauty, it ain't. In the aviation world, the saying goes, if the aircraft looks fast, it usually flys fast. Too bad the Mentor isn't being developed and pushed to the market.
I know a fella who is looking to invest in new projects.........if I could come up with a good design......oh well..............

Hi Nemrod,
I agree that it looks a bit weird, and maybe that's why it appeals to me.
Concerning the mouthpiece, it is the same one that is on the rebreathers that Aqualung is marketing. It actually is a very old concept, and dates to the Hope-Page mouthpiece. It has a main body, and two rings that screw into it to secure the two hoses. What are the advantages? Well, in the field, without a screwdriver or anything, you can adjust the tilt of the mouthpiece so that it is ideal; even while you are wearing it you can adjust it.
I'm curious about whether the new Mistral uses a mushroom valve for the exhaling valve in the main body, or a duckbill. I'll bet it is a mushroom valve.

Sober up fellas. Just the thing for folks who dont know the value of a dollar. You can buy the ROYAL Aquamaster for less than half the price of one of these plastic pigs. Were vintage divers arent we? It will depreciate the moment you buy it. A vintage reg will appreciate. Unless it says Broxton on it, Im not interested.

Amigos, I'd debate this new regulator won't appreciate somewhat over the years......I bet they won't produce as many as Aqualung's single hose regs...Which will drive demand and likely used prices up at some point....Vintage gear may be going up lately, but to a very small market of users / collectors..... As our own Broxton Chuck and a few others have noticed, if you want to travel and dive anywhere other than your own pond, lake, off your own boat, or FLA hole in the ground you'll need "modern gear"..... We live in a time when everyone sues everyone and unfortunately the gear we're all collecting and diving is viewed as hazardous...Plus the way we WANT to dive it (minus a BC, Pressure gauge, etc.) Just the way it is.... I run trips and have had customers who don't want to spend $35.00 for DAN insurance in case they need a chamber ride!!! Well guess what, the dive boats don't want their business.... If this new "toy" as many have called it (without ever holding one or diving one) is the entry fee to great dives I think it'll be a good thing YMMV (your mileage may vary) and what the heck is a "Sand Dog" anyway? David, you are 100% right. I have been named in at least 7 suits that I can remember relating to instruction, equipment we rented or sold or trips we advised people on. I have been threatend with legal action on this board..... All the operators are doing is CYA.....Just take a look at the premium we pay for liability insurance as instructors. The only way we can afford it is to be written under a blanket policy backed by the store and the certifying agency. I spend the 1st 30-45 minutes of scuba 101 with new students watching videos and filling out papework to limit the amount that we can be sued for.......I look forward to diving the new double hose and can't wait to get my hands on one!
On the subject of Sand Dogs......Rob or I will have to explain that one to you in person when we meet up in Florida next month...

Speaking of SAND DAWGS...I am planning on bringing a few packs for All to enjoy . Bryan and I may have to hold Broxton Chuck back as he is a SAND DAWG lover big time. I may even bring some Cincinnati sand straight from the projects for a little extra flavor! ;D

Robbo! We need to get a truckload of sand dogs so we can go non stop on beer, Hawk whiskey, and ripple AND SAND DOGS that is except when we go to LENAS! I wonder how SAND DOGS would taste soaked in "Old Hawk"? We will find out! We coule feed them into the compressor, then we wouldnt have to stop to eat, just dive dive dive!

Maybe after the kids spend their piggy bank money for the new double hose regulator, we can get back to real vintage diving again.
