Here's My AIR I with it's Cobra meter and a compass: Here's that gauge before I got the compass on it with fishing line wrapped around it that I had to cut during a dive. Here's a very old USD pressure gauge: Here's an early set of calibration corrections for different gauges at altitudes: John

I just got this, it was cheap and I'd never seen one: John, I know you have that mid-1970's HW catalog; is this supposed to be oil-filled? It's got some icky schmootz all over it and that screw on the face looks like it's for filling, no? Jaybird

Yeah, it's oil-filled, or was! Hopefully a new No.65 o-ring will bring this sucker back to life, oh, and along with some oil too... I was told these old ones use mineral oil, whereas the new ones use silicone. I'll be using mineral oil again because mixing oils can do bad things, not always, but... JB

This was known as the 1975 Oil Filled 250' Depth Gauge, Jaybird. The 1975 Catalog states:

Whew, just in the nick of time--thanks John! I was going to go buy some mineral oil, but I didn't, now I have to find some sillycone!

Jaybird, Here is the 1976 Healthways catalog entry on your depth gauge. The picture of your gauge is here. The description of the 1975 depth gauge is on the other page, above. John

John, very, very cool--thank you! I'll need to find one of those styles of SPG's now; all of my HW SPG's are all the old kind that don't work in a console...

Off subject: I was realizing last night that I have a thing about old Sears stuff! Sears sold the Healthways Scuba Star relabeled as J.C. Higgins, what a wonderful intersection! Here's my latest Sears find... My 1962 Ted Williams camp stove--VERY RARE as they didn't have them long! Yes, the Very same Teddy-baseball... I'm toying with the idea of starting a vintage sporting goods blog JB

Well they ain't exactly my gauges, but they are kind of interesting. If you look closely at the Swimaster SPG on the right, you'll notice a scale on the inside. You guys should be able to figure out what it indicates. Good Dives, Charlie
