Hello...I should first say that I know absolutely nothing about vintage diving suits, other than what I'm trying to track down, which is this: I'm a prop-builder for collectors etc. and have been commissioned to build a replica of an Invasion-type Cyberman from the 60s (and indeed current!) British sci-fi series Doctor Who - this replica has to be absolutely spot-on, and even if I can't get hold of one of these suits (which I appreciate is unlikely) then I'll have to make one that looks as close to the originals as possible. So, my question is: would any experts on here know if these were, essentially, off the peg suits? I assumed that these would have been black suits painted silver, but my research has shown that there were in fact silver suits made in this style - also, the only vintage ones I've found (and I've acquired two) do not have the lovely smooth skin that these have, more of a houndstooth pattern, and they're also black. Do any of these vintage suits ever appear on auction sites? Is there anybody who still makes suits in this style? I hope these questions aren't irritating to anybody on here - I'm not after one for actual diving purposes, but I do want to replicate one in as much detail as possible and I hope that might appeal to somebody on here! Hmm...well infuriatingly I can't add an image - I'm being told that the forum has exceeded it's limit for images, that can't be right surely? OK, some links then! 3.bp.blogspot.com/-DZi8KHEoflI/VSWtQLNwh4I/AAAAAAAAPtk/ckfHsp017IY/s1600/cyber1.jpgwww.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/wp-images/cybermen/types/v5-cover.jpg4.bp.blogspot.com/-QYctTBeLyUA/UMepyD-Qo0I/AAAAAAAAJeQ/cE2f1HRFuQo/s1600/invasion4.jpg

Greetings to the forum! We'll try to help as much as we can. I've never actually seen Dr. Who, but I've heard of it and it sounds interesting. Currently you are looking for a black beaver tail wetsuit? You should check eBay, they have many types of wetsuits and the sellers can give you additional pictures if you want. You could paint them silver, as did Cousteau and his divers in the 80s and 90s, so indeed it would be possible to replicate that particular wetsuit. I'll include some links afternoon eBay.

Your first and last image shows two different suits, so just find something close! I believe what you're looking for is a smooth skin, seal, as opposed to shark or turtle: textured suits have the neoprene textured by laying them on screen, like as in window screen--REALLY!
If someone is actually going to wear this, get I think, 3mm for surfing: if not you may need to call a paramedic for someone suffering from hyperthermia in 20-mins.
Just was a heads up, there is a crowd of people who fetishize these seal-skin suits, so it might be tough to find a neat old one...
Yes, you will need to paint them too. I believe the Cousteau dive team had a silver suit at one point, but good luck finding one!
Good luck,
Jaybird

We are a community forum and don't want to pay for more space, so yes, unfortunately there is no way to upload an image. I think Ryan Spence is an expert on constructing and/or painting a silver suit. www.flashbackscuba.com/about.htmlGood luck!

Hmmmm, now that I'm looking, ya got two different Cybermen too: the ones about to clobber the cute babe are very different, more luster/shine on the suit. Which are older, could it be that the headphone guys are newer and using a nylon covered suit, they don't look as shiny, more dull... BTW, I'm a fine as well as graphic artist... JB EDIT: they have snaps, not twist-locks Me in a US Divers:
