Since this is the most active thread today, I am jumping in to remind everyone to check out the Event at Clear Lake, Oregon on June 13-14.

I always take them apart. I had a better diaphragm, so I installed that, too. Yeah, me too: did you get the diaphragm from Rob? OK, so, I've heard a HW diaphragm will fit in the can, but there is something different, the tab? Can you please elaborate? JB

The diaphragms are slightly different in diameter, I believe. The Sportsways diaphragm does have a tab on it to prevent interference with the exhaust valve. It would be a worthy experiment to see if an HW part can be made to work!

Phil is correct the Healthways diaphragm is slightly larger. I'll try to trim it to fit in the Sportsways can. Once I get it to fit I'll figure out the little tab.

Bravo sir! You can just epoxy an angle-bracket on there made from a piece of brass sheet stock like I've done with my HW. I hope this works, and I'm glad I mentioned something JB

JB- I like that idea, but I was thinking about attaching something to the diaphragm like Sportsways did.

Skip, I thought about that too, but the problem I foresee is getting it to stick/stay: you REALLLLLLY don't want it to delaminate at depth! Getting something to adhere permanently onto plastic can be kinda tricky at the best of times. Unless you use the old metal one, or make a new friction plate, you may want to use my method. This is only my opinion, I'm more than happy to be wrong JB

Another positive is that you don't need to think about/remember to align the diaphragm, " Razaphraza-ding-dang--GRRR, what the heck is wrong with it now!" JB

This is only my opinion, I'm more than happy to be wrong JB The Healthways Scuba Deluxe had the diaphragm without any projection on either the diaphragm or the top box. It functioned well without it PROVIDED that the non-return in the mouthpiece was intact on the inhalation side. But without that mushroom valve, the increased backpressure will force the diaphragm against the exhalation mushroom valve in the can, and you won't be able to exhale through the hose system. How do I know? Well, this is experience talking, and you don't want to start a dive in the Clackamas River with this happening. It results in a snorkel swim to the shore, and a champ grout of the regulator with your backup regulator at the car. John

Later Deluxes had a tab soldered to the can, earlier ones didn't.
I wonder if a pop rivet through the diaphragm plate would work? The disk is held on by one. Or in the exhaust box?

The diaphragm I got from Rob has a friction plate on the inside, to contact the second stage lever. The plate is riveted in place. on the outside there is a metal washer. I'm thinking the washer might be a good attachment point, using Marine-Tex. One of my objectives is not to permanently modify the reg. I have a working Hydro Twin II. I have a good Sportsways diaphragm, and another useable spare. I really don't want to permanently modify this reg, now if anybody has a Sportsways exhaust can they want to donate to the cause, that I would be willing to try modifying.

Copy that Houston... OK, so, what if you cut the rivet out and cut something in place of the washer like one of the hands of a clock: with the end bent out to act as your tab. I just wouldn't dependon/trust the adherence of the glue... JB

JB- Thats more on the idea that I was thinking. I'll try it with the Marine Tex as a test then after I get it working make it permanent.

So, put a pop rivet in the diaphragm plate in the same place the Sportsways diaphragm has the tab?

Here's my Healthways Scuba Deluxe: IMG_1423 by John Ratliff, on Flickr I have longer hoses (mismatched, by the way) and a Hope-Page mouthpiece on my Healthways Scuba Deluxe. IMG_1417 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Here is the interior. Note that there is nothing on the can to prevent the diaphragm from interferring with the exhalation mushroom valve. IMG_1422 by John Ratliff, on Flickr I placed a new Healthways diaphragm on it, from The Scuba Museum. Note the height of the pop rivet on the diaphragm. I think the pop rivet will work well, especially if there is a non-return valve in the inhalation side of the mouthpiece. John
