This is not bragging--please do not take it that way. Way back, my instructor friend when I was a kid had a DOXA watch. It was way cool and I always wanted one. He also owned a small scuba shop and sold USD gear and of course USD sold DOXA watches with their logo on them. You may recall these from the 60s and 70s. Even JC wore them! Well, while casting about for something to spend my remaining ebay funds and lawn mowing funds upon (have Kubota--will travel) I encountered a DOXA on a watch trading site--thanks emilio largo. This led to a search for others which led to the company that still makes them, the DOXA SUB600T!!!!!!!!!!!!! and darn if their not being featured in the recent movie release SAHARA (a simple for fun adventure movie). Well, I now have one and it is way cool and looks like it is right out of the 60s and it is so purty it makes Rolex watches cringe and it is vintage and my instructor would be proud, double hose and DOXA, just like him. I better go warm the 'bota up, see I if some yards need mowing! James

Congratulations on the new Doxa! Keep looking for an old Heuer to go along with it. I enjoy collecting vintage dive watches as much as other vintage scuba gear. I am especially found of automatic (or self-winding) watches. It's amazing the precision involved with keeping time using springs and gears. NO BATTERIES REQUIRED! Automatic watches don't have to be expensive, for about $150 you can find lots of divers such as Citizen, Seiko, Invicta plus some Swiss watches like Sandoz or Kronos-Ruhla. The dive watch forum Nemrod refers to is: www.equationoftime.com/forums/diveforum/I have a 1971 Zodiac Super Sea Wolf (75 atmospheres) that I hope to get back from my watchmaker before diving in Hawaii with Turtleguy next week!

I too dreamed of owning a DOXA when I was a kid and started diving in '74. I found a great site by Dr Pete Miller, www.doxa300t.com/, that has all kinds DOXA's. 3 years ago I found a vintage 300T professional (orange face) with the USD logo on it, just last week I bought the new rice bead bracelt for it from DOXA and soon it will look original! My other watch is a Rolex Submariner bought in 1983 and an Seiko "orange monster" that is worn during those times I dont want to beat up the Rolex, although the Rolex has over 300 dives on it, some below 200' (and 75 jury trials!)

Hes, Emilio, I will always be a Heuer diver. I miss my old green face Heuer very much, nothing will ever replace it in my memory. I like my Heuer Formula 1 but it is kinda modern and trendy by comparison. The DOXA is a more refined timeless watch like the old 1000 series Heuers, it does not shout 'look at me' but it means buisness all the way. The DOXA is automatic as well! The one I have is black, the SharkHunter model. I sooner or later hope to find another Heuer 1000 Profesional--some day if I am lucky and have the money when I find it--lol. John, those Seikos like your talking about look like a nice beater, are they the ones that run under 200 dollars? The St Moritz beater I have now is darn near impossible to read underwater--I think I may take it and shoot it. Well, at least I only paid 60 dollars for it and for a disposable watch it is OK even if I cannot read it, it served decently on the vintage dive, actually I have had it for about a year. I had some weird off brand beater dive watch and it got a rough burr on the bezel so I took it and sanded it on the belt sander--then it started running backwards!!!!! Then when it remembered which way to go I let it drop off my arm on the ramp and it got runned over by a Citation X and then was swept up by the FOD sweeper. An inglorious end to a junk piece--fitting it was . James

I still have my AQUASTAR BENTHOS 500 dive watch. It keeps perfect time. I never take it in the water. You cant seal them up anymore. I broke a chip out of the face of it changing the oil on my wifes subaru. If she had an american car it never would have happened. A watch place wanted 100.00 to replace the crystal.. They must be nuts. The watch is from 1972. Whats it worth? Who can replace the crystal at a non rip off price.

James;
Yes the Seiko cost me I think about $150.00 with the rubber strap which fits great on a wet suit and it is fantastic to see underwater, the lum glowes like the sun and very easy to read u/w. Bezel is a tad tight but for a automatic divers watch for under 200 you cant beat it! I gave up diving with the Rolex and now only use the Seiko, plus I love the orange face.

I HAVE USED A SEIKO 300 METER PROFESSIOAL DIVE WATCH, THAT I HAVE HAD FOR CLOSED TO 25 OR 30 YEARS, CAN'T REMEMBER FOR SURE, THAT I USED ON ALL OUR DIVES. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OR LEAK. I JUST HAD JACK AT INDUSTRIAL WATCH RESTORE IT AND GAVE IT TO MY GREAT GRAND SON, AFTER I BOUGHT A NEW ONE, JUST LIKE IT. BY THE WAY JACK DOES A TREMENDOUS JOB ON DIVE WATCHES. A LITTLE HIGHER THAN SOME OTHERS, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, A FIRST CLASS A NUMBER 1 JOB. IT SUPRISED ME THAT THE WATCH HAD NOT INCREASED IN PRICE THAT MUCH OVER THE YEARS. THESE WATCHS ARE CERTIFIED FOR USE ON GAS DIVES. AND IN MY OPINION, FOR A WORKING DIVER, A REAL GOOD DEAL AT A REASONABLE PRICE, WHICH IS AROUND $400 TO $475, FROM JAPAN DEALERS. BATTERY REPLACEMENT RUNS ABOUT EVERY 5 YEARS AND COST ABOUT $45.00 FOR A COMPLETE GASKET AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT, AND PROFESSIONAL DEPTH TESTING. VERY, VERY DEPENTABLE QUARTZ WORKS.
