OK, I have a Mistral, West Pico addy with no serial number. I'm assuming this is from 1958 or 1959 as USD left West Pico in 1960 and I've seen other West Pico Mistrals with serial numbers. This would be accurately dressed with both yellow hoses AND yellow mouthpiece? Tinnermans? Has a yellow dustcap? Was that original? Inquiring minds want to know...
If I get the $$ this winter and the stuff is available I'd like to set it up as it originally was.

Well, my West Pico Mistral had yellow hoses and a black mouhpiece when I got it but I think that was the second mouthpiece when I was given it in the late 60s so I think the original was yellow. It also has a yellow dustcap. To my knowledge yellow hoses are not available at this time and I doubt you will find a yellow mouthpiece. I bought two yellow ones from Going Under in Minnesota but I doubt he has anymore, might try him. Supposedly we may get another run of yellow hoeses per the thread on Hoses. That would be great because I intened to buy at least two or three pairs. My regulator does have a serial number. James

I always liked the combined yellow hoses and black mouthpiece, with the black hose clamps. It just made for a very nice color combination for photography.

Which is more elusive, yellow hoses or old USD catalogs from 1958? James

Parts of the 1962 catelog were published in the 2002 Aqualung catelog. Page 9 shows three divers, one with a Mstral with yellow hoses and a black mouthpiece and black hose clamps. Somewhere I also have clippings for a junior high school report I did on scuba diving, and that has (I'm pretty sure) the same color combination. It was a knockout combination photographically.

Ask Dan, he has all the old cataloges. I've got a lot of them too, I could bring them to Wazee for you to look at.

The earliest USD catalog I have access to is 1959. The Mistral in this catalog, as well as the Aqua-Master had yellow hoses AND mouthpieces. However the catalog listed that black hoses and mouthpiece assemblies were available. In 1960, the hose was yellow and the mouthpiece was BLACK.

Thanks. Ron is officially out of yellow mouthpieces though. Looks good enuff with a straight MP I got from Dan, will get yellow hoses if/when they become available. Can the lack of a serial number pin this Mistral to a specific year? I've seen other West Pico Mistrals WITH serial numbers and to my knowledge the Mistral was introduced in 1958 and USD left West Pico in 1960.

Yes, I believe my Pico Ave Mistral is from 58 or 59 and I am pretty sure it originally had all yellow hoeses and mouthpiece and dust cover. I got my two new yellow mouthpieces in hopes that when yellow hoses are available again I can return it to it's former condition and glory. James

I just acquired two Mistrals from Pico Blvd which I'd also like to "date." They look hardly used and I sort of knew the owners and am pretty sure nothing has been replaced. They have yellow hoses, black mouthpiece, black dust caps. They have serial #'s in the 115000 range. Another possible clue is the J-valves on the tanks are date stamped 1960...for whatever that might be worth.

If you notice, the early yellow label mistrals with NO numbers were the ones with the yellow tinnermans. Later the plastic clamps came along. The serialized ones BEGAN at 100000 so serial number 115000 is the fifteen thousand range. Inside they are all the same, with the oriface. that started with the yellow label to the end. Some of the old stream airs have the oriface, and these were the ones with the half circle mistral emblem on them, with the red label cans. but I would guess that many of them were up graded by their owners too, years ago.
