I hand machined a USD lp poppet to fit my new assembly. I need to trim the shaft, but it's partially functional. I have to find a better way to produce those poppets. I either need to get a lathe or find a way to cast them. I'm leaning towards lost wax casting.

That looks pretty good.

Looks great, Mike! Did you do calculations to determine the hole sizes on the seat retainer, or was it by trial and error. I know it can be a touchy balance.
If you can get a lathe, do it. With a lathe and mill you can make just about anything.

With a lathe and mill you can make just about anything. I duplicated the hole sizes of the Trieste, with the exception of eliminating one of the holes, to increase the venturi effect. This idea was taken from John Ratliff, who had altered his Trieste 2nd stage assembly in that way. I've actually started building a lathe, but that's a long term project.

Alas, now I know what Voit did with manufacturing defects. I was excited to get a regulator functional from my motley crew of parts, and I couldn't get the 2nd stage on the body to quit leaking. I look at the orifice, and it's deformed, badly. They had cranked down the 2nd stage so hard, it cut halfway through the lp seat. Unless one of my wilder ideas pans out, this body is sadly regulated to the life of a single hose. I'll post a picture whenever I get over this damned cold.

Creed,
Sorry to hear about the cold. Concerning the seat, is it possible to hand-polish out the deformation? I'm assuming that it's on the vertical plane, and if so, it seems that perhaps you could do something about it. I hope so, as you've put in a lot of time and effort.

John No, it can't be polished out. It's actually folded over slightly. I'm going to see if the local machine shop can't bore the orifice out to allow me to put in a Titan replaceable orifice. And I've got 4 more Titans to work on regardless.

'Glad to hear you have backups. I'm interested in how your project goes. I've finally got my Trieste II completely back together, and ready to dive, after a full service (mine). Hopefully, tomorrow it will be in the water.

Well, I got to do some surface breathing tests with my homebrew regulator. It breathes very nice up here. I should have a pool report and some photos to share within the next few days.

Creed,
We are (or at least I am) very interested in what's happening with your regulator, and the pool tests. Very few people actually build their own regulator, so this is a pretty unique vintage experience. Please do keep us informed.

Well, here are some pictures of my initial prototype conversion, using a slightly modified DAAM case(you have to snip off one of the positioning tabs). Thanks go out to Bryan, Luis, Sam Miller and John Ratliff for supplying me with the parts to get this far. And, yes, I know I haven't put the filter back on, and the clips aren't set on correctly. But I was excited about showing off my new toy, a fraken-trieste!

Here are a few new pics. This is the regulator after my pool dive yesterday. I spent about 45 minutes in the pool last night. I had the IP set at around 125psi. The regulator breathed well. I plan on replacing the diaphragm with a silicone one and upping the IP to 135-140 for the next test. Overall, I think that this reg is a very good breather, and will only get better as I tweak it. Hopefully, I'll make some more headway with the cases soon.

Creed,
I'm excited for you, as it looks like you have a good double hose going. But do you have a better top box that you can put on it?
