Somewhere on this board I saw some discussion about putting different internals in the HP valve to make it balanced. Others tried to duplicate this feat, but were unsuccessful. I think it's because they were trying to stuff the extra parts into a short valve body, and the first person was working with the long one. I will continue to look for that thread, but if someone knows offhand, please direct me! Here it is. He is clearly using the long valve body. vintagescuba.proboards.com/thread/668/healthways-double-hose?page=5

Phil, I found a water Lung valve-seat that I'm going to try this with. The problem I see with using the gizzards from a USD are that you need a different push-rod. The HW push-rod is unique. You'll either need to make a new one or, GULP... cut the HW down--NEVER! With the Water Lung though it should work because the other side of the valve seat is concave, to fit the cone shape of the HW push-rod. If you need a WL seat, I can show you where they are hidden--MU-HOOOO-HAHAHAHA!

I made clamp retainers for the stainless case rings that are similar to the original double sided screw and nut out of some stainless screws cut down and threaded into old computer mainboard standoffs that I machined. These were from IBM PCs. I mean the one that came out in 1978 or something!
To me, they capture the spirit of the thing, even if they aren't exact replicas. The Scuba in the above picture has just been rebuilt and sports mostly original parts including the OEM main and exhaust diaphragms. It breathes very easy!

Are you talking about the #17 (Fred Roberts' diagram) actuating pin that pushes the nylon plunger open? Show us some pictures of this new scheme!

Now, I completely understand and support mods to things that already work perfectly well. As everyone knows. My Misuba rev1 is an egregious example of modding two things that work great already. Some (JB) would say that it isn't just egregious, it's blasphemy.
The Scuba works. It works very well when tuned properly. It has received a bad rap because of its crazy-a** exhaust set up. And maybe because the lever adjustments are soooo picky to get good results. The Deluxe took care of the exhaust, but it became a big porky thing. The Scuba is a much more svelte unit. And, the HW single stage setup is dead simple. You've gotta love it! I'm just sayin'.
But, I totally want to try to make a balanced single stage unit.

Here's a nest of Scubas:
4 of them are ready to dive. The one with the completely coppery label is not yet finished.

Dang son, yer just a little Healthways-tramp aren't you--yer worse than I am, GEEZ! Good work, now I don't feel as possessed by the demon now... Linda Blair, who was typecast for dumb reasons... Healthways, typecast as junk for dumb reasons... Oh, BTW Phil, welcome to "The Dark Side" JB

I'm slightly embarrassed to say, that's not all the Scubas I have.... But I'm sticking to double hose regs. Imagine if I got into single hose stuff!!!

I love the Healthways Single Hose reg. I can afford them and they are easy to get up and running, or at least my experience. Mark

I love the Healthways Single Hose reg. I can afford them and they are easy to get up and running, or at least my experience. Mark Nothing wrong with single hose regulators. I am tempted sometimes because they are plentiful and inexpensive, but figure my particular obsession is costing me enough time and money, so I'm laying off. I have two: a ScubaStar TDQK and a Calypso red label. They both work well. I tend to fixate on one or two models and then gather up half a dozen or so of each. For me, the Mistral and the Scuba are the "it" regs at the moment. Thankfully, because they're hard to find, I've been limited to only two DivAirs. This is not to say I don't have other kinds. I have one Scuba Deluxe, one Scuba Gold Label, and lastly and leastly, one DA. Sorry to the DA lovers for the disrespect to the Aqua-Master, but it just doesn't float my particular boat. On another hand, the DA is a double hose regulator. And, likened to beer, any double hose is better than no double hose.

OK Philster, here ya go buddy: The back of the Sportsways is identical to the Healthways so I didn't bother showing it. But, do you see what I'm talkin' 'bout? I have a Connie that I'm gunna pull the gizzards out of and see if I can get 'em to work. If it does, I may stuff them into my Goldie JB

OK; I just tried the USD stuff and it's too big to fit. I'll go down to Steele's sometime and get these same pieces and machine them down to the c'rect size... Yeah, I know someone is saying, "See, I knew it wouldn't work..." JB
