Woo-Hoo snarky's doing the happy dance, snarky's doing the happy dance. JB you hit this one. I was putting the IP adjusting screw in finger tight. When you mentioned leave it all the way out, I loosened it until I heard the spring moving when I tipped the reg over. When I put it on the tank like that it locked up at 150 psi. A little high but not free flowing and I adjusted it down to about 120. I'll check Sportsways recommendation and go from there. To everybody that offered their help and suggestions a heartfelt thank you goes out to each of you. Now to dial in the IP and adjust the second stage lever height and an old Hydro twin will be back in the water. John its great you were able to get out today with your Hydro twin. I can't wait to get out with this one with one of my New England Divers tanks. Thanks again everybody

Snarky, that's why we are here: to help each other! Congratulations my friend JB EDIT: 135-140-psig for the IP...

JB, My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, an unbalanced reg such as this one the IP will vary with tank pressure. Sportsways says set the IP at 110-120 with a tank pressure of 2250. If I set the IP at 135-140 am I still using a 2250 tank pressure?

Set your IP with a tank that has 300-psig in it: this is SOP for any unbalanced reg.

Thanks JB. That's what I thought but I wanted to be sure.

Jaybird is correct; the IP should be set at a lower tank pressure, and with an unbalanced diaphragm regulator, the IP will INCREASE as the tank pressure decreases. If the IP is set at 2250 psig, then the IP will increase and may free-flow. I usually use a pressure around 500 psig, as at 300 psig you are getting quite low.
It is the opposite for setting the IP for a unbalanced piston regulator, as the IP will DECREASE with a piston first stage as the tank pressure decreases. This was probably the reason for Sportsways to state that you should use the high tank pressure. They were talking about their unbalanced piston regulators. OR, they state to set it at the higher tank pressure to 110-120 psig, and they know that by the time the tank is low, it will be 130-140 psig. Either way works.

Thanks John. I was aware that IP increased as tank pressure decreased on a DAAM, I wanted to be sure it worked the same way on this one.

Saturday 9/29 I went to my parents lake house to pull their boat. While I was there I did a dive to recover one of those new fangled dumpable weight pouches a buddy lost last weekend. I decided to use the Hydro Twin I (New England Divers) as this would be a fairly shallow beach dive, and it would be a perfect in water test for the reg. I'm happy to report the Hydro Twin I performed flawlessly. The dive ended up being fairly short as I found the pouch after about 20 minutes and I only used about 700 psi, but the reg still performed well.
Thanks again guys to everyone who helped with this project.
Now I'm on to try to fix what was my first DH, an early 60's Snark 3 (V-2) given to me by a neighbor. It hasn't worked in 30 years...…….

JB I did know it was named after Hitlers weapon of mass destruction. The name was also changed because of the name connection to said missile. Nemrod's marketing dept. found it would sell better if it didn't remind people of that dark time in world history (at least so I've been told).

But instead, they renamed it to an American WOMD, the SM-62 Snark: Nemrod also had a reg called Saturn: As my screen name implies for those in the know, Nike-Ajax, I'm really into scary/frightening Cold War stuff... JB

flic.kr/s/aHsmjLTTUblink to pics of the New England Divers/Hydro-Twin I. Please don't flame me for the yellow hoses, I know they're not original but I had them laying around and thought they looked cool with the New England Divers label.

My Hydro-Twin sports grey Voit hoses and a Voit mouthpiece (thanks Jay; see my avitar). The original Sportsways mouthpiece was not as good as the USD equivalent, and the hoses were pretty much gone, so this is how we get them back into the water. John
