JB,
As someone who has been in charge of respiratory protection programs and has conducted fit tests for respirators, my concerns for face coverings stand, but with some adjustments. The reason is that there have been computer modeling showing that, even if the mask is not 100% effective, it will greatly reduce the spread of the virus. This is also shown in South Korea, Taiwan and Japan, where mask-wearing after the SARS epidemic was essential in controlling SARS. But the best would have been if there were enough N-95 masks available, which there is not. So the next best is face covering masks (mouth and nose).
Let me say something about the use of a N-99 elastomere respirator. They should not be prohibited because of the exhaust valve, as they project the exhalation straight down. Some disposable respirators have the non-return valve in front, and I can see where that would be a problem. But with the downward direction, chances of projecting droplets to others is very small. The place where they cannot really be used is in medical and dental settings, where they may infect a surgical or dental field.
Distancing is also very, very important. These droplets don't project very far, and getting away from people is another means of protection.
John

Nothing spectacular to report. As usual I have 5 or 6 simultaneous projects going on with no real time to work on any of them. Real life keeps getting in the way. Waiting for parts, looking for parts, building parts and testing various configurations of parts once I obtain them is the norm. Might get out for a dive tomorrow to my favorite halibut hunting grounds. I always feel much better after I've slayed an edible creature of the deep. Stay safe everyone. Mark

My work bench and desk is more along James1979 than Mark's. I'm trying right now to find a drawing for another site, but have come up short. I need to get rid of some junk (yes, real junk).

My wife came downstairs today ( a rare occurrence) to ask me a question about printing something. She looked at my physical desktop for the first time in weeks, and said, "Do I need to be worried?"
It is a disaster. I know where everything is.

My workbench isn't exactly the model of organization but I try. Years ago I took a full semester class through the law school at U.S.C. (Yea, that University of Spoiled Children). The class was on organization of the mind and workspace and I have to say it was one of the most helpful classes I have ever taken. As a result, my law practice is 95+% digital and I think back to what I learned in that class almost daily.

Thing is, is, it can take an hour to clean up my work top, and it only takes 5 minutes to get it back to the same chaos. Is that a natural law?

It's kinda like trying to shove the Big Bang back into the origin of the Universe. At least for the foreseeable millenia, matter will always seek to expand.

Took my boat out yesterday to test out the MR12 rebuild. Visibility was lousy and I couldn't find my fishing license. Ended up taking my GoPro instead of my speargun. Hadn't taken any video in a year or so but it was kind of fun getting reacquainted with the set up. Now, I tend to pride myself with having everything all streamlined and looking proper underwater. However, on this dive I was having trouble with my mask leaking. See if you can tell why? Note: the red thingy is my mask lanyard. I had no idea it was positioned all wonky until I got home and reviewed the video. Oh well, no one's perfect. Mark Entire video is 1min, 23 sec.

I had a teacher in high school, who when he saw my cluttered desk, said to me "a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind." He wasn't happy with me when I replied "does that mean an empty desk is a sign of an empty mind?" My workbench is still cluttered.

I despise people, but especially teachers/instructors, who think they're being so witty when they say cr@p like that: people learn differently, and as someone with ADD, I work best in clutter! JB
