Here are some photos of the early Broxton I was working on a while back. I got the cleaned up and plated parts back, and put it all together. My friend did a nice job of replating without making it look too perfect, which I specifically requested. I didn't want it to lose the "been there" look. He cleaned up the cast parts (valve body ring, HP spring retainer and IP adjuster). USD did not plate them, so they got installed in their original, unplated state. I cleaned up the slightly buggered horn screws, and made the new lever adjuster screws and retaining wire. The exterior chrome wasn't terrible, but had some chrome loss on the intake horn. Here's a photo of the worst of it. And, after the work was done. The 9/60 dated scratched in the top box is still visible (at 6 o'clock in the photo). I will purchase a label from Alan soon!

Very nice resurrection on that '53!! thank you for posting this project. this should inspire me to get going on my '53 green tag. i have the parts to do it. however, i received the reg with a snapped off horseshoe lever screw in the body which needs a very small easy-out or equivalent tool to remove.

Ouch, that's delicate work. If the screw remains won't come out I know of a spare Broxton body. Good luck!

Here's what I did to a blue Navy Approved a while back: It looks like it isn't centered, but the hole was hogged out badly. Drilling the old one out caused the repair plug to get skewed over a bit. Drilling the new hole re-centered it.

You did well with that Blue. ‘Sounds like you need to make a new lever screw too, with that hole in it. ‘Hope you can recondition this one too.

John This is when our friend Phil does his very best/most creative work: I know he wouldn't enjoy it if it didn't have a horrible problem--that's the fun of it! JB

John Here are two of the new screws I made on the right. The left one is an original I copied. I put two drillings through each screw so there are quarter turn positions for cracking effort and leveling adjustments. The valve works perfectly now.

So what year were these from? JB If we exclude CG-45s and the iterations of the OG regs, and stick to Broxtons, I think it was Black, Red, Green, Blue. Green was from 1953. Adair's website, CG-45.com has the sequence.

I'm not completely sure which reg mine is. I think the regs up to and including Red had one piece HP spring keepers w/o adjusters. Mine has a two piece part. Regs with flanged horns started with Blue labels, and mine has straight horn ends. Best I can figure is mine is a Green. You never know what repair/upgrade parts were installed, so you can't know for sure.

I was wondering because that makes it contemporary with the Divair then, and it wouldn't have performed nearly as well.

DivAirs are a class amongst themselves. Really good performers, and like nothing else, before or after.
I've been talking with James about a DivAir style body that could incorporate a readily available 2 stage valve. Haven't lit on one yet.
A 2 stage DivAir would be an achievement.
