Gee-whiz, I forgot to copy the guarantee too!
Boy, it's a peculiar one, but I like it. I need to get some penetrating oil on that adjustment-cap, most carefully though, as the allen wrench won't move it, an' I don't wanna strip it out.
Yeah, this one, it's decidedly different, and actually unique...

So, this last Thursday, John and I FINALLY got to meet up! I was asking him about this sign: which now looks like this: It was kinda trafficy, so I didn't get to see it, but I was telling him about an interesting bit of verbiage on the side of my Deep-1 box and the warranty, " White Stag - Water Sports Division, 1046 Princeton Drive, Marina del Rey, CA 90291" So that kinda makes Dacor the only American company that wasn't in California, or am I forgetting one? Side note: Who but John would think to have a Scubair slung over his shoulder as he pulled up at the airport, making it impossible to not know who he was. John and his wife were very good hosts My wife and I got to see John's collection, of which my wife's comment was something like, "Dang, you two are like nerd-twins; you have so many of the same regs..." Love the way they repurposed that sign. I wonder how many people know its history...
Glad you two got to meet.

We had a very short, but great time together last Thursday. I almost put a new topic up, saying "SeaRat and Jaybird Meet." As I was headed to pick Jay up at the airport, I decided to bring my Scubair Sonic regulator with me to show him how the sonic version was an extension of his Scubair. I was waiting for Jay to phone me at the Cell Phone Waiting Area for cars, and waited and waited. Finally, I could stand it no longer, and called his cell phone...but got into the voice mail...and at the same time got a call from Jay to me. We called each other at exactly the same time. So I headed out, and I had given Jay a description of my gold Honda Pilot, but figured he'd need something else to ID me by. As I came to the area, I took that Scubair Sonic and wrapped it around my neck, figuring that probably no one else would have a Healthways Scubair wrapped around his neck, driving in to pick Jay up. I was right, and Jay saw me and started laughing at the same time. On the way back, he mentioned the White Stag sign, as he knew that I got my first wet suit from White Stag, when my aunt Gracy Conklin was working there. He wanted to see the sign, but I couldn't make it out from the buildings as we drove near the area of that building, so we missed it. He also mentioned a iconic bridge, which I now know is the St. John's Bridge, but we missed that by a few miles too. Jay did see the Fremont Bridge, which we went over. Now, about White Stage; it's original name was Hirsch-Weis, which of course means "White Stag" in German, but was also the founder names. And, it originally was a Portland company: They started out making wet suits, then progressed into the dive gear. Their first regulator was a unique tilt valve, of which I've seen a couple now. This is White Stag's first regulator, probably about 1957. This is from the Northwest Diving History Association, of which I am a part. But I don't have one. I do have my White Stag DEEP 1 regulator, with two second stages, which I was able to show to Jaybird. I also showed Jaybird my Healthways bag, which had some fins I was showing off and my hybrid Healthways SCUBA regulator, which was still wet from a pool dive the weekend before. Here's that bag: Here's that wet suit I got when I was about 15 years old: Me with my then girl friend, dive buddy Elaine McGinnis, and we are really, really cold, having just floated on the Willamette River from Eola Bend to the downtown Salem, Oregon bridge, about an hour and a half in the water, just bobbing around on New Year's Day, probably 1963. I was so cold that, when given a cup of hot chocolate after getting out of the river, I spilled much of it onto my hands, and it felt soooooo goood. Notice that I'm already out-growing my wet suit too. We had a great time, and I got to meet Nora too, talk to her about her educational programs that she was demonstrating to the Beaverton School District, and talk about my tutoring at the Health and Science High School in the AVID program. But, alas that meeting was too short, as she and Jaybird needed to drive to Eugene that evening. We got to finally meet, and that was great. John
